Darren Grennan runs a productive, organic dairy herd between Kilbeggan and Clara.
He is one of the many organic dairy farmers that works closely with Kiernan Milling. He milks 153 cows on 109ha; 70% of the herd calves in the autumn, while the remaining cows are spring-calvers.
“We decided to go into organics back in 2008; we started supplying fresh milk to Glenisk in 2010.” the owner of Grennan’s Organic Farm explained.
“We are currently buffer-feeding our cows fresh grass morning and evening, accordingly, as they come in and out for milking.”
Cows are being fed a 20% organic dairy nut which is part of Kiernan Milling's range. “We are very happy with the performance of the cow and Kiernan Milling’s service,” Darren added.
Susan Dudley M.Agr.Sc, research and development nutritionist at Kiernan Milling, said: “Kiernan Milling’s organic range caters to the needs of poultry, sheep, dairy and beef farmers.”
“All our diets are formulated based on silage and grass analysis; we use only the best quality ingredients available to us.”
