The Brahman Express the livestock boat chartered to deliver Irish cattle to Turkey for live export will return to Ireland. The boat arrived in turkey on Tuesday and is now set to return to Ireland once more. A second boat the Atlantic M arrived on Sunday.
It’s understood that the boat will carry further boatloads to Turkey before year’s end.
Speaking at the ICOS conference this week Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said;
‘We will make progress in new markets, but we will not turn our back on the British market…it is the market we understand best… on the beef side it’s just north of a billion euros. ‘
He also spoke of the unique position Ireland had with the UK and that that factor was informing the ground work preparations in light of Brexit.
‘In every government department Brexit impacts and it does require a whole of government approach.’
