Kilco in Ireland is a family run business, established in 1953 and now leading the way in biosecurity and hygiene for the agri-food industry.
They now have offices in Germany, Scotland and Ireland, while are also exporting to over 70 countries worldwide. Area Manager, Ruth Surgenor, explains that one of their 85 distributors is Kiernan Animal Health, a veterinary practice owned by Kiernan Milling.
Having started by supplying hygiene products the dairy industry, Kilco have moved onwards and upwards and now make products for all types of farms, in particular, pig and poultry farms.
The team will visit your farm and complete an overall farm survey, while then developing a programme to help farmers face the various challenges presented on their farm, such as disease and time pressures.
They will then revisit the farm during cleaning and disinfection application, before completing a microbial study to show the levels of bacteria reduction.
“Kiernan Animal Health recommended Kilco to come on board and help with their biosecurity programme”, said pig farmer Dessie Connell.
“Since starting the Kilco programme, we have reduced the use of antibiotics for coccidiosis...We have eliminated the use of needles by using ID guns, therefore limiting the risk of spreading disease from pig to pig”, he added.
Dessie also noted that since gaining the help of Kilco they have also reduced their labour costs.
“We are very happy with the way the results are going”, he concluded.
