A gorse fire broke out near Barna in Co. Galway yesterday, July 10th, in the early afternoon.
The fire originally began at Truskey West, not far from the coast and at the rear of the local Twelve Hotel. There were as many as three units of the fire brigade called in to fight the blaze, with firefighters trying to get the fire under control overnight.
Nearby residential areas were badly affected by smoke caused by the fire, though nobody was injured as a result. They were advised to keep all of their windows and doors locked, to avoid any smoke inhalation.
Galway Bay FM reported that a total of eight fire brigade units were attending gorse fires in the area yesterday, in areas such as Lettermore, Glinsk, Carna, Moylough, Carraroe and Clifden.
