Rural Innovations – an Australian-based company that prides itself with “outside the box thinking” – has designed a tool which “takes the frustration and stress out of maintaining fences”.
The Serca Fence Strainer was born when Richard Fox – who hails from strong farming heritage – was assisting a friend with fencing.
The tool uses gears to create a mechanical advantage, reducing the forces required to be exerted by the user when straining a fence by approximately 50%; this eliminates the risk of ‘spring back’, the inventors noted.
The chain is permanently connected to the straining mechanism, which reduces the connections required during the straining process from 3 to 1; this resulted in an estimated time-saving of over 50%, the company maintains.
The company has outlined that the versatile tool can be easily modified and can be used as a tie-down chain, a calf puller or a light-duty winch; it can be stored in glove compartments in vehicles or toolboxes in an ATV or on a motorbike.
