A group of farmers decided to stage a protest today, causing significant delays to the 16th stage of the Tour de France in the process.
Farmers lined their tractors up alongside the road and began their protest earlier today. Some riders were left needing medical treatment as a result of the protest, with farmers throwing hay bales onto the road. They did this to bring the race to a halt and get their message across.
The incident occurred 29kms into the stage, from Carcassonne to Bagneres-de-Luchon. To break up the protest, police used spray, though this backfired as some of the competing riders were left needing medical attention after being accidentally sprayed by police.
One of the cyclists in need of attention was said to be the Four-time champion, Chris Froome. All of the riders were forced to wait until the protest was under control before they could resume their race.
