On our brand new weekly-series, we have all the latest machines for you to cast your eyes upon.
First up, we have the latest combi spreader from Agri-spread. In the first of our episodes, we meet Cathal Flannelly, who is the track manager at Ballinrobe racecourse. Cathal has been working there for 15 years, eight of which have been full time.
His main role is getting the course ready for action, with between 9-10 meetings throughout the summer, with races every three weeks. His job means he is constantly looking after the ground, before and after meets. This entails filling any holes with sand, peat and soil mix.
Cathal tells us of the troubles they had using a small trailer, with small buckets to fill the divots manually by hand. He said this wasn’t very accurate and took a lot of time. He then set off on a search for the perfect machine, He then came to the conclusion that a lime spreader would be the best fit, then he got in contact with Agri-spread and the rest, as they say, is history.
The Agri-spread designers came up with the design, especially for the racecourse staff. It not only fills divots, but also broadcasts sand.
“For us it is one machine, but does two very good jobs” he said.
“It has increased efficiency and speed...Now the track is in much better condition. Trainers and jockeys alike have been commenting about how good the grass cover is and about how good the track is riding at the minute” he added.
“Without doubt it is the best machine we bought here at Ballinrobe racecourse” he concluded.
