The Furlongs expanded their dairy enterprise and went in search of a new parlour, following the abolition of milk quotas.
280 cows pass through a 28-unit Dairymaster Swiftflo parlour which also has a bailing and auto-draft system.
“One of the key things is when you swing over the arm, the meal will drop down to them [the cows] at that time.” explained Lloyd, who farms with his brother.
Since the installation of the parlour, the Furlongs have noticed that herd health and cow fertility have improved, and milk yields have increased.
“We are very happy with the time that we are saving on milking; we are happy with cow comfort and the ease of operation of milking.”
“The only thing I am disappointed about is that we didn’t do it sooner.” the dairy farmer concluded.
