Sean and Michael Connell have to transport fodder from the mainland in order to feed their suckler herd.
The two brothers farm on Inchbofin Island on Lough Ree near Glasson, Athlone in Co. Westmeath.
“Sean and Michael have to bring all fodder in from the mainland to feed their herd of sucklers.” Frank Lennon explained.
“Their uncle - John Connell R.I.P. - was the last remaining inhabitant on an island in Lough Ree.”
"They made headlines in 2010 when Lough Ree was frozen over and the Air Corps had to airlift hay into the island to keep his cattle fed.” He concluded.
