Paul Kirwan of Homeland, as part of our Fourth instalment of Garden Corner, is focusing on organic gardening and some of the organic plants and products available in Homeland stores.
First Paul speaks of the common problem in gardens, slugs. Paul noted that one way to tackle them is the use of grit or crushed eggshells. The rough surface will discourage slugs from going near plants you sprinkle them around. Paul also noted the product Slugs Gone as another option for budding horticulturists, to rid themselves of pesky slugs. This deters them without actually harming the slugs.
Next up Paul lists another good product available in store, Sluggo - Slug and Snail Killer. This is unharmful and can be sprinkled around vegetable patches. All products mentioned by Paul are made from organic produce.
Then it was plant food and the organic options available to gardeners. Paul mentioned a product called “Organic rose and shrub food”, which he says would be perfect for most gardens and is safe for both children and pets.
The final product mentioned was Root fly control, which helps deter green flies and similar pests. The final product listed was the “Superfast and long lasting weedkiller”. This product, like all the others mentioned, were produced by NeuDorff.
“99% of all plants found in Homeland are Irish Sourced,”, Paul informed us.
Plenty of choice for those out there looking to rid their garden of pests, without damaging the environment. Don’t forget to tune in next week for more from Garden Corner.
