A Wildfire broke out in Co. Kildare yesterday evening, near the Curragh.
Videos and pictures emerged on social media last night of smoke billowing from the fire on the plains in the Maddenstown area. As you can see from the above video and below pictures, the fire broke out near the Curragh racecourse. The scene was attended by Kildare Gardaí and the local fire brigade. Investigations into the fire are underway, but it is thought to have started organically.

Gorse and scrub fires are not unusual to the area, having occurred in recent years on the Curragh plains due to dry, hot conditions. The fire was eventually controlled by the Kildare Fire Service. They have called on vigilance from the public during the dry spell and called for extra caution when discarding cigarette buts and using barbeques.
"We ask people to be extra vigilant during this hot spell as dry vegetation around the area can set alight easily. If smoking, ensure when finished that the cigarette is fully extinguished. Do not have a bbq in undesignated areas.", they said.
"Enjoy the lovely weather, but be safe doing so", the posted continued.
