Achieving 500kgs of milk solids per cow is a target that Alan Hughes has set for his 235-strong herd.
He expanded his dairy herd on the back of the abolition of quotas and opportunities to lease land on a long-term basis.
With this, came the need for a larger parlour with good cow flow; he went in search of a company with competitive rates and a satisfactory back-up service.
Speaking about his Dairymaster Swing 26-30, Hughes said: “One thing that I notice with the new parlour is that cows are extremely relaxed.”
“It was all about getting in and out, without having to move out of the parlour. Udder health would have been very good in the old parlour, but certainly, it is every bit as good – again, it’s about not being over-milked or slippage.”
“I think the whole package is excellent – the pressure is gone.” Hughes concluded.
