Joel Albright and his father, Fred, milk approximately 600 Jersey cows and farm an additional 500 replacement heifers in Willard, in the USA.
Radical on-farm changes have occurred over the past decade; the family have grown their herd from 300 to 600 cows and have introduced a robotic milking system.”
“We started up our robots on March 26th, 2018 with 8 Lely A4s. In October, we started up our ninth robot so we could increase our number of milking cows.” Joel explained.
“After we implemented our robot start-up, we were able to reduce our labour force by about 60%.” he added.
“You don’t know what the future holds – all of those things can change overnight. Labour may not be available to you; it may become more costly and it will become more costly.” Fred concluded.
