Mainly dry towards the end of the week

Today: Rain will develop along the south coast during the afternoon extending northwards to affect much of Munster and south Leinster by evening time, according to Met Éireann. The rain will turn heavy and thundery in places. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees with light variable or easterly breezes.

Tonight: It will be cloudy and rather misty tonight with showery outbreaks of rain, heavy in places. However, it will hold mainly dry across north Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in mostly light northerly breezes.

The showers will be heaviest and most frequent across the eastern half of the country with the best of any bright intervals in the west. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees with moderate north to northwest breezes.

Showery rain is predicted to continue in the east for a time and will clear overnight. Some scattered showers elsewhere, mainly in western and northern coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.

Wednesday: The national forecaster predicts a fair amount of dry weather and some scattered showers, these mainly in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster, but a few further to the east and south also. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees with moderate to fresh northwest breezes.

Thursday: Met Éireann forecast a mainly dry day with bright or sunny spells. There'll be a few showers on north facing coasts. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees, with mostly light north to northwest breezes, coolest in the northwest and warmest in the south.
