Here at That’s Farming, we love adding a unique twist to our journalism and Catherina is always on the search for rooting out farm-themed engagements and weddings.
Here is her most recent finding and it is one of our favourites!
‘Climbing into the end dump where he started it up and started lifting up the bed so that if anything was in there, it would just fall out. Sydney recalls.
It was just like the usual agenda that follows after finishing ‘a day in the office’ for Sydney McCann, a native of Mt. Vernon, Mo. This evening’s agenda in question was to clean and grease the equipment, in order to prepare litter from the barn for sale.
However to the shock and surprise of Sydney, she was amazed how ‘straight the bed got’, so her boyfriend Kyler Kalbaugh of five years told her to ‘go look in the back and see if anything had fallen out.’
‘I went back there and looked to see if anything was coming out. There were the usual presence of a few leaves and debris. I took once glance up and I noticed a cardboard box taped back, which I thought was rather unusual. Then I noticed a few words on it. I began to read and noticed my name. I kept reading it and then I got the goosebumps. I started to tear up a little and just realized it was….a wedding proposal!’ Sydney told Catherina.
‘I looked up and my handsome farmer was down on one knee with a box open and there I noticed the most prettiest daintiest gold band with a beautiful diamond.’
‘ I jumped up probably at least three times and said ‘yes’ and couldn’t help but kiss him a handful of times. I then went to grab my camera to get photos and post this to my girls on Women In Agriculture Facebook page, where they will find this so cute and definitely a one of a kind proposal.’ Sydney added.
‘We talked about getting married, even had a date picked and started planning this beautiful fall wedding of our dreams. He is a big procrastinator but that’s kind of why I fell in love with him, it aggravates me but yet that’s when he does some of his best work. For the proposal I figured it would farm related since we do most of our stuff at the farm or something farm related like auctions, tractor pulls, and were always outside doing something.’
Sydney was shocked and proud of Kyler’s creativity. He had actually devised this charming unique wedding proposal a number of weeks ago, after he decided that he wanted something out of the ordinary, not the usual take you out to dinner kind of proposal.
Childhood sweethearts Kyler Kalbaugh and Sydney McCann grew up and went to school together, but it wasn’t until a date to the prom, that the duo’s love came to the forefront!
Sydney derives from an Agricultural background comprising of a small family farm owned and managed by her Grandparents consisting of Angus and Brangus cattle.
Having been together for a little over five years, establishing a farm was one of the duo’s biggest objectives that they wanted to achieve before tying the knot and starting a family.
The couple have now successfully accomplished this goal, after a quantity of research, a farm comprising of 200 acres, seven turkey barns, with a focus on row cropping is now in full swing.
The date for the big day is set and will occur on a crisp Saturday in October of this year, with inspiration received from Pinterest.
‘I love the old antique rustic type of look. And yes of course it will be country we will both have our boots. He will have a pearl snap button up with his shotgun shell boutonniere; we will have live flowers in all of our pieces. I will have a very beautiful high low lace dress where my boots will show. We will have straw bales, mums and pumpkins for most of our decoration pieces. We both couldn’t have done it without the help of our family in helping us make this the best times of our lives.’ Sydney said.
