Weather: Rain is here, but when will it stop?

This morning will be mostly cloudy with patches of rain or drizzle, according to Met Éireann. The rain will be mostly confined to Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster as the day progresses, with some sunny intervals developing elsewhere by evening. Top temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Tonight will be cloudy in most places, with mist and outbreaks of rain or drizzle in Connacht and Ulster. The south and east will experience clear intervals in what will be a mostly dry night in these areas. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Tuesday

The national forecaster expects a cloudy morning on Tuesday, with patches of rain and drizzle in Connacht and Ulster but dry elsewhere. It will become dry in the afternoon with sunny spells in most places. Temperatures ranging between 17 and 22 degrees, warmest in the midlands, in light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Tuesday night will be dry and partly cloudy with light to moderate southerly breezes. Temperatures overnight will range from 9 to 12 degrees.

Wednesday

Wednesday will begin dry and sunny, according to the national meteorology department, but cloud will increase in the west during the afternoon, bringing outbreaks of rain to west and southwest coastal areas by evening. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in a moderate southerly breeze.

Cloud and rain will continue in the west early in the night and will spread eastwards overnight, followed by mist and fog patches in western areas towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light southerly or variable breezes.

Thursday

The northeast can expect rain to clear on Thursday morning, according to the current forecast, leaving dry and largely sunny conditions across the country by the afternoon. However, cloud will build again in the southwest and west during the evening and rain will move into the southwest.

Outlook

Current indications from Met Éireann suggest there will be more unsettled conditions as we move towards the end of the week. A spell of wet and windy weather is expected on Thursday and Friday, followed by breezy and unsettled conditions at the weekend. It will also turn cooler from Friday, with highest daytime temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
