Some snow showers are expected in Connacht and Ulster today, according to Met Éireann.
There is a risk of thunder, although it will turn more to rain and sleet during the day, except on high ground.
Meanwhile, it will be mainly dry in south Leinster, with more wintry showers set to spread eastwards through the late afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will reach 3 to 6 degrees, with lows of -1 to +1 tonight.
The national forecaster outlined that wintry showers will gradually become confined to the west and north – some will fall as snow, especially on high ground, but at lower levels also.
There will be a sharp frost and icy stretches in the east tonight, although it will be mainly dry with clear spells.
Tuesday – It will be cold once again with further scattered wintry showers, which will be most frequent across the western half of the country.
Temperatures will be in the region of 4 to 6 degrees in the afternoon with lows of 0 to +2 tomorrow night. Showers will continue in Ulster on Tuesday night, while mainly dry conditions are expected elsewhere.
Wednesday – Met Éireann predicts that there will be showery rain for a time, mostly through the north and north-eastern parts of the country.
It will be mainly cloudy elsewhere with highs of 7 to 9 degrees in the afternoon. It will be mainly cloudy overnight also with lows of 3 to 4 degrees.
Thursday – Rain, which will move from the south-west to north-east during the morning, will clear quickly to showers, giving rise to drier conditions in the afternoon.
There is a risk of rain along western and north-western areas on Thursday night.
Friday – The National Meteorological Service outlined that there will be outbreaks of rain in the morning, with mostly dry conditions expected thereafter.
