Heavy rain is expected to clear northwards this morning, with showers from the south set to become widespread, according to Met Éireann.
Showers will continue throughout the day, with some thunderstorms expected; temperatures will reach 17 to 20 degrees.
Further showers will follow tonight, with temperatures dropping between 13 to 14 degrees.
Saturday – Showers of longer spells of rain are predicted, especially over the northern half of the country with drier intervals in the south.
Showery rain will extend south-eastwards to all areas later in the day and on Saturday night; highs of 17 to 21 degrees.
Sunday will be cooler and fresher “the nicer day of the two this weekend across most parts” according to the Irish National Meteorological Service.
Lingering overnight rain will clear eastern counties and most areas will enjoy a mostly dry day with just well-scattered showers; highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees.
