Weanling prices steady but governed by quality at Elphin

Gerry Connellan reported an 88% clearance rate in the dry cow ring at Elphin Mart’s sale on Monday, August 10th.

He noted that the average price achieved in this category was €1,233, as entries ranged from €510 to €1870 for a 715 kg  Belgian Blue.

Bullocks

  • < 300 kg – the average price achieved was €600 for a 250 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €890 with a maximum of €960 for a 350 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €973 with a maximum price of €1,010 for a 465 kg Charolais;
  • > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,190 for a 540 kg Hereford. 

Weanlings

“55% clearance of bull weanlings with prices steady governed by quality.”

  • < 300 kg – the average price achieved was €657 with a maximum of €830 for 290 kg Simmental;
  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €760 for a 390 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €870 for a 450 kg Limousin. 

Heifer weanlings

“67% clearance of heifer weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • < 300 kg – the average price achieved was €780 for a 260 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400  kg – the average price achieved was €693 with a maximum of €920 for a 390 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €850 for a 405 kg Charolais.

Sheep

A full clearance of lambs with prices as follows: 

  • 49.5 kg – €110;
  • 44 kg – €104;
  • 40 kg – €93;
  • 37.5 kg – €86.5;
  • 33 kg – €80. 

91% of ewes presented for sale found new homes, with prices ranging from €100 to €127; breeding ewes climbed from €170 to €203.
