Ireland is to be taken to the Court of Justice in the EU over its failure to ensure urban waste water is adequately collected and treated.
Ireland is to face the backlash of the EU commission over its failure to treat waste water and prevent ‘serious risk to human health and the environment’ in 38 different areas around the country.
The 38 areas are
- Ballincollig New
- Cork City
- Gaoth Dobhair (Co Donegal)
- Pasage/Monktown (Co Cork)
- Roscommon Town
- Shannon Town
- Waterford City
The EPA has indicated that there was a drop in water quality from 2012 to 2015.
A recent EPA report indicated that agriculture was a cause of 53% of river pollution incidents in 2010-2012.
