It might sound strange but chocolate and sweets are no strangers to the feedlot process and after reports of farmers feeding skittles here in Ireland we’ve now got reports of Wagyu cattle being fed chocolate in South Australia.
Scott De Bruin of Mayura Station in Millicent, South Australia feeds his wagyu cattle M&Ms, smarties, chocolate and biscuits.
Mr De Bruin told the ABC how he has never looked back since making the switch;
"Our customers started to tell us that our beef had this really unique flavour and was different to anything else they were tasting in the marketplace.’
De Bruin’s ideas have caught on and he’s been the subject of news reports from the BBC and CNN.
70% of his beef is exported to Asia as a premier product.
The unique marbling of wagyu cattle has seen their beef sold for exceptional prices for fine dining.
