Vet suspended for professional misconduct

A private inquiry by the Veterinary Council of Ireland resulted in a practitioner in Cork having their registration in the Register of Veterinary Practitioners suspended for a period of two months.

The decision was made by the Fitness to Practise Committee of the Veterinary Council of Ireland, according its annual report, which was published yesterday (Tuesday, April 7th).

Fitness to practise

A Fitness to Practise inquiry was submitted after it was alleged that Mr Cornelius Twomey “provided and/or arranged to provide his clients with a casket containing ashes and/or other materials which he represented to be the ashes of their dog in circumstances where he knew this to be false and/or untrue”.

The inquiry found he “provided false and/or misleading information to his client that their dog had been cremated in circumstances where he knew this to be false and/or untrue”.

These allegations were deemed as professional misconduct after an inquiry by the Fitness to Practise Committee and the Council directed that under section 80 (1) (b) of the Act, Mr Twomey’s registration in the Register of Veterinary Practitioners be suspended for a period of two months.
