Over 900 sheep met with an improved trade at Tullow Mart on Tuesday (June 11th), according to Eric Driver – Manager.
He noted that prices increased by €2-€4/head, especially for lambs weighing from 43kg to 47kg.
Entries over 50kg sold from €122 up to €130, while well-presented fleshed lambs between 45-50kgs met a “very lively trade” as they ranged from €116 to €125.
Lighter, fleshed lambs over 40kg went under the hammer from €110 to €122.“Store lambs met a very lively trade; numbers were small in this section but still a very exciting trade.” Driver added.
“In the cast ring, no change still setting the blaze with those heavy ewes to a tops of €155.”Fleshed ewes clicked from €130 to €150, while young store-type cast ewes varied from €30 to €35 with the kg; some aged ewes sold from €20 over.
Butcher-type hoggets made up to €100 with some well-marked suitable for breeding replacements pushing up to €125.
Ewes with lambs at foot
With a small entry of ewes with lambs at foot, aged ewes with singles moved from €120, while younger ewes with a lamb-and-half at foot ranged from €175 to €180.
Pens of hoggets with lambs at foot topped out at €200/unit, with a full clearance in this class, Driver outlined.
