Tullow fatstock show and sale raises the ‘optimism’ for beef trade

There was a lively trade across the board, especially for quality, forward continental-types at Tullow Mart last Friday (January 24th), according to Eric Driver.

Speaking following the sale, the mart manager, said: “The annual fat stock show and sale for bullocks was a tremendous sale and raised the optimism around the ring for the beef trade moving into the spring.”

Bullocks

Plainer, beef and forward-type bullocks sold from €2.00-€2.35/kg, “Plenty of cattle selling in excess of €2.20 per kg and a very lively trade for those 600kg plus-type cattle.”

“Plenty of farmer custom around the ring for store bullocks and a very demanding trade for good store cattle.” Driver added.

Plainer Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus-types went under the hammer €2.00/kg, while continentals varied from €2.30-€3.00/kg.

Cull cows

“A smaller selection of cull cows, but they also sold with a very lively trade and selling to a commanding price for the heavier-type cows which would be a good note for the week ahead for the female fat stock show and sale.”

FR cows ‘freshly out-of-the-parlour’ clicked from €150 with the kg, while heavy cows reached €1,460.
