We didn't think we would see another miracle this season after the birth of 4 healthy calves in Co Clare last month! But Sarah Higgins from Charlestown Veterinary Clinic got in touch with us last night to let us know about her special start to the week!
Sarah helped deliver triplets on Monday and she was pleased to tell us that the three calves are doing great!
The triplets were born on the farm of Ann and Eugene McIntyre of Charlestown, Co. Mayo.
Sarah explained how it all happened:
"He called me yesterday and he had assisted the delivery of the first calf himself – there was a normal presentation coming headfirst.
He put his hand in and he knew there was trouble because there was multiple legs coming so when I arrived on the scene the first thing I felt was two hind legs and two front legs so I thought it might have been a repeat of the whole Clare story last month. So I rearranged the legs and we backwards pulled the breached calf first and he came out alive. Then we had to go back in and get the third calf out and that was a normal presentation.'
Sarah wasnt expecting there to be another one!
'Naturally enough, I then went back in to make sure there wasn’t a fourth calf one there. All calves are doing very well and the cow is also doing well this morning."
