“Joe’s knowledge and keen eye for quality around both pedigree and commercials rings will live long in our memory.”

Tributes have poured in for the late Joe Gilfillan, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28th.

The passionate farmer was committed to breeding both pedigree Charolais and commercial cattle and was a well-known figure on the agricultural show circuit.

Leading tributes, Noel McGoldrick, president of the Irish Charolais Society, said: “It is with sadness that we learn of the passing of Joe Gilfillan, a former president of our society.”

“During a long and distinguished term as part of our council, Joe held all three officerships and did so with the same enthusiasm and commitment he showed breeding top-quality Charolais over the years.”

“Joe’s knowledge and keen eye for quality around both pedigree and commercials rings will live long in our memory.”

“On behalf of myself, the council, and staff of the Irish Charolais Cattle Society, I wish to extend our sympathies to Joe’s wife, Mary, and extended family. May he rest in peace.”

Dedicated commitment

In a post on social media, Carrick Pedigree Cattle Shows, said: “It is with great sadness that the Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society acknowledge the passing of Joe Gilfillan our treasurer, former president and lifelong member.”

“Joe’s deep interest and dedicated commitment to the society was remarkable.”

“The society extend their deepest sympathy to his beloved wife Mary, his sister Noreen and all the extended Gilfillan and Beirne families. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.” the post concluded.

Inspiration

In a post on social media, Midland and Western Charolais Club, said: “It is with great sadness that the Midland & Western Charolais Club acknowledge the passing of Joe Gilfillan.”

“Joe was one of the founding members and served as chairman for many years.”

“Joe's dedication to the Charolais breed was inspiring with the many top-class animals he bred and showed at shows & sales.”
