A GAA club in Co. Tipperary has started a new challenge to raise some much-needed funds to support frontline staff.
Participants are required to drink a raw egg, donate to the GoFundMe page, and nominate three others to do the same.
Rockwell Rovers
Rockwell Rovers, a GAA club based in New Inn, south Tipperary, are trying to raise money for St. Patrick’s Hospital, Cashel, Co. Tipperary to enable them to purchase essential Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.).
St. Patrick’s Hospital provides care for older people in south Tipperary.
The challenge was originally set by Lar Donnelly and his two sons, James and Jack, as they challenged their Rockwell Rovers mentors, as well as their teammates from both Rockwell and Rosegreen, to drink raw eggs.
It was then Cormac Ryan, one of the Rockwell mentors, who decided it could be used as a means of raising money for charity.
Since then, it has gained popularity all over the country, as a club spokesperson commented: “it’s brilliant to see Rockwell members living all over the country joining the cause”.
The fundraiser has exceeded its initial €1,000 goal.
