Donegal Fianna Fáil Minister and spokesperson for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has come out in saying that he will fight for the compensation package for tillage farmers across the west and south of the country during last autumn’s perilous weather conditions.
The inclement weather conditions saw many tillage fields flooded and it made harvesting undesirable. The conditions saw a yield reduction of an estimated 400,000 tonnes valued at €80 million. The reduction adds further burden to already dwindling farmers’ incomes.
Farmers’ backs are to the floor as a result and Minister McConalogue has said that the issue will be raised at a private members meeting this coming Tuesday.
Mr Creed has failed to reiterate any further on the issue but it’s due time that something was done, sooner rather than later.
