The 14-year-old girl, who was killed on a farm over the weekend as reported by us here, has been named locally.
Abbie Nummy, a pupil at Newry High School, died on Saturday afternoon.
The NI Air Ambulance Service was tasked to the scene of the incident after receiving a call shortly after 2pm.
The PSNI and HSE have launched an investigation into the incident.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the PSNI, said: “Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following a sudden death in a tragic accident at a farm in Newry on Saturday.”
In a statement on social media on Sunday, December 1st, South Down UUP, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are very much with this dear family of Abbie Nummy tonight and in the coming weeks and months in the wake of this terrible, terrible tragedy.”
