Ragwort, as you may know, is a plant found on a lot of farmlands throughout the country and is highly toxic to livestock. It has become more prevalent in recent years, with some reports of stock having been killed following ingestion.
Serious signs of ragwort poisoning include Constipation, a dull coat, loss of condition, seizures and a coma. It generally causes liver damage and usually results in death! Read more about ragwort here.
Racing pundit, Ted Walsh, who is well-known for his “Ask Ted” segment, was asked about the ragwort problem in the country, to which he laid the blame firmly on the door of both the council and the farmers.
"I think it's an absolute disgrace around the country," said Ted on RTÉ when asked about ragwort.
"I pull ragwort. People say it's a carcenagenic. I've been pulling it since I was 16 and I'm not dead yet.”, he continued.
The Outspoken Walsh then even claimed that those not pulling ragwort, i.e farmers and council workers, “should be shot”
"The county council should be shot and the dirty farmers that let it grow up around them... shoot them as well.” he said.
"Shoot the whole lot of them." he reiterated.
