The call for a €200/cow subsidy continues as 90% feel concerned about the future of the suckler sector.

Concerns continue to be raised over the identification and implementation of a measure to maintain suckler cow numbers.

The ICSA conveyed a sceptical response to the proposal of an early slaughter premium as a mean of holding numbers to ensure the future of the sector.

In response to the above matter, That’s Farming ran a poll over the course of the weekend and the results are outlined below.

Poll

When asked ‘Do you agree with the proposed early slaughter premium as a means to maintain suckler cow numbers? - 69% said no, while 31% answered yes.

As a follow-up to this question, we then purposed the following: ‘Do you feel that a coupled payment of €200/cow would be more effective?’ - 76% responded yes, while 24% replied no.

We concluded the poll with a final question - ‘Are you concerned about the future of the suckler beef sector?’ 90% answered yes, while 10% have no concern.
