Spells of heavy rain at times today and tonight will result in some flooding.

Met Éireann has updated its series of warnings ahead of Storm Lorenzo, with storm surges set to produce coastal flooding and damage.

It said that the centre of the storm will move closer to the northwest coast this evening.

South-west winds will increase to gale force along west and south-west coasts, generating “potentially damaging gusts there”.

Met Éireann warned that heavy rain will move into Connacht & west Ulster also.

Status yellow rainfall warning

A status yellow rainfall warning came into effect in Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal at 9am this morning.

Valid until 6am tomorrow, Met Éireann has warned that spells of heavy rain at times today and tonight will result in some flooding.

Status yellow wind warning

Meanwhile, Wexford, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford will be placed under a status yellow wind warning from 6pm this evening until 6am tomorrow (Friday, October 4th).

South-westerly winds of mean speeds 50-65km/h with gusts of 90-100km/h.

Status orange wind warning

A status orange wind warning is valid for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 6 pm today until 3 am tomorrow (Friday).

“South-westerly winds veering westerly will reach mean speeds of 60-80km/hr, with gusts generally of 100-120km/hr, higher in coastal regions.”

Status yellow wind warning

Meanwhile, a status yellow rainfall warning came into effect at 9 am this morning and will remain in place until 6pm this evening.

“South-easterly winds will reach mean speeds 50 to 65km/h with gusts 90 to 100km/h resulting in some disruptive impacts.”
