Met Éireann has warned that there is a significant risk of coastal flooding due to the combination of high spring tides and storm surge.

Mét Éireann has issued a number of weather warnings ahead of Storm Brendan.

A status orange wind warning will come into effect in Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford at 7 am tomorrow (Monday, January 13th) and will remain in place until 3 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will be placed under a status yellow wind warning at 7 am tomorrow; this will be valid until 23:59.

"As Storm Brendan tracks to the northwest of Ireland, southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts of 110 to 130 km/h, highest in coastal areas."

The national forecaster warned that there is a significant risk of coastal flooding due to the combination of high spring tides and storm surge.

Status yellow wind warning

Meanwhile, a status yellow wind warning will come into effect in Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon at 7am tomorrow (Monday, January 13th) and will be valid until 23:59.

"As Storm Brendan tracks to the northwest of Ireland, southerly winds veering southwesterly will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, highest in coastal areas."

"There is a risk of coastal flooding due to the combination of high spring tides and storm surge." the national forecaster warned.
