Residents in the Castleconnor area in Co. Sligo are ‘taking the bull by the horns’ in a bid to deliver much-needed amenities for their community.
The group is raffling a pedigree Limousin bull from the prize-winning Milan Limousin herd of Donie and Maura McKeon as the main prize in a draw for Stokane Community Park.
The project’s core focus is for complete inclusion and accessibility across all ages both young and old.
“Rural isolation is a very real thing and this community is fighting back to reduce this, while also having a major positive impact on the health and wellbeing of everyone.” a spokesperson told That's Farming.
“Never before have rural communities throughout the west of Ireland been under so much under threat; this is why this community is fighting back and doing its best to deliver these much-needed amenities.”
The spokesperson noted that Castleconnor is a community where there has always been a "great sense of community pride." “With the realisation that the financial situation required to develop the park, the community and friends have rallied together and amassed a vast array of valuable items for the draw, which is being organised by a very active committee.”
Other prizes include a €1,000 holiday voucher with Fly Away Travel; Stallion Service by Sligo Candy Boy worth €75; a tonne of coal in Queenan Checkout; €250 voucher for Sun Apartments, Enniscrone; €250 BBQ from Archers; €200 animal feed in Queenan Checkout voucher; Hereford heifer calf from Muddy Burns’ bar & restaurant and 1 night B&B in Clanree Hotel, Co. Donegal.
