The Belfast Telegraph has reported that Solar company Lightsource Renewable Energy has officially turned on the largest Solar farm in Northern Ireland. Located in Antrim the facility will generate enough electricity to power 11,000 homes.
The project is part of a network of 5 sites linked by a single connector which all feed into the electricity grid.
Another solar farm is about to begin a build in Antrim.
Chief executive of Lightsource Nick Boyle said: "We are delighted to complete this landmark project in Antrim. This is the most significant solar development on the island of Ireland to date. Domestically generated solar energy has an important role to play in meeting Northern Ireland's energy needs."
Lightsource also operates a solar farm close to Belfast International Airport.
