Monday night saw a sheep attack take place in Donegal county, resulting in the death of five lambs, as reported by donegaldaily.com.
The incident occurred sometime early on Monday morning in the Derryhassin area of the county. This is said to be the fourth attack to happen in the area in recent years.
Five lambs were killed during the attack, with four others badly injuries, from which they may never recover. The remains of one other lamb was also reported being missing. It has been reported that the surviving members of the flock have been left badly traumatised and are unable to eat due to fear of further attacks.
The farmer who owned the sheep, Charlie McGeever, made the discovery at approximately 9am on Monday morning. He discovered the dead and injured lambs on his farm in Derryhassin, Rossguill and reported the incident to the Gardaí. It is the second dog attack in two years, suffered on the farm.
Investigations were carried out by Gardaí on Tuesday and Wednesday in the area, with substantial progress made. They have again urged all dog owners to behave responsibly and ensure their animals are under their control at all times.
