Farmers gear up for 2018 Rose of Tralee Festival


The festival which kicks off today will see 58 men battle it out for the Rose Escort of the Year title and 58 women will compete for the prestigious 2018 Rose of Tralee crown.

The festival which kicks off today will see 58 men battle it out for the Rose Escort of the Year title and 58 women will compete for the prestigious 2018 Rose of Tralee crown.

58 men including eleven farmers have been chosen as Rose Escorts as part of the 2018 Rose of Tralee International Festival.

The male participants aged between 21-30 were required to pass an interview process; numerous endurance tests and team-building exercises before they could become fully-fledged Rose Escorts.

Land Custodians

The farmers, along with one forester are joining other candidates from a wide range of professions for the festival which runs from August 17th-21st.

Cork has the highest representation with 11 Rose Escorts, followed by Kerry; Dublin and Limerick.

The Rose Escort of the Year will be chosen live at The Dome on RTÉ on Monday, August, 20th; Daíthí Ó’ Sé will present the televised show.

The Rose of Tralee

Fifty-seven women will battle it out for the 2018 Rose of Tralee title, with the winner set to be crowned on Tuesday night. Among those is 23-year-old full-time farmer, Grainne Hogan, representing Laois.

A number of other female contestants also have agricultural backgrounds.

Entertainment

Along with several fun-filled events, Jake Carter; The High Kings; Sean and Conor Price; Hermitage Green; Oasis Tribute Band; Neil Diamond Tribute Act and Rolling Stones Tribute Band are set to entertain crowds at the festival.
