Gardaí in Monaghan were alerted to cold callers who were power-washing for a vulnerable member of the community last week.
Enquiries were carried out with these individuals, who provided fictitious company details and had no supporting documentation, according to Gardaí.
It transpired they were “charging an excessive price for the work carried out”.
Vigilance
In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division, said: “Please never entertain cold callers or employ them to carry out work.”
“These rogue traders normally target the more vulnerable who live alone. If you have a family member, neighbour or friend who may be vulnerable, please advise them of these people.”
“Be vigilant and do not hesitate to contact your local Garda Station if you suspect bogus callers are operating in your area.
REMEMBER IF IN DOUBT, KEEP THEM OUT.” the social media post concluded.
