A report on Galway Bay FM has said that some farmers have been promised a ‘weekly run’ of GLAS payments as a result of their protesting outside the Dáil this week.
Protests in Dublin, Castlebar, and Wexford sprung up this week as farmers simply had enough of delays. GLAS payments were supposed to be distributed to all farmers participating in the scheme last October.
Alas, there are still thousands of farmers reportedly without payment. The Dáil protest, led by IFA President Joe Healy, was met with a response from the government. They promised to keep farmers in the loop entirely with their plans for payments and, as the Galway Bay FM website reports, provide ‘weekly run of GLAS payments’ to the remaining 8,900 participants.
Reports have also come through that An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has spoken in the Dáil about the issue, claiming that GLAS payments totalling €4.2 million have been given out this week already.
