Tipperary councillor, Joe Hannigan, has said that the Lower Ormond area in the county was being turned back into the Gaza strip, in a reference to the last local elections when the area was placed n the Offaly constituency, as reported by TipperaryLive.
The councillor from Kilbarron in Co. Tipperary was making the comments in reference to the removal of 79 ANC areas from the ANC scheme and called for them to be reinstated. He noted that the changes meant that areas previously listed as disadvantaged were now classified as advantaged.
The call for the campaign was backed up by fellow councillor, Michael O’Meara, who said that it is smaller farmers who are worst affected, noting that the Lower Ormond area was the worst affected in Tipperary.
“Big farmers are not affected by this, but small farmers are,” Cllr O’Meara said.
“There is a head of steam building over it” he warned.
Councillor O’Meara said the issue has now been brought to the attention of Tipperary Oireachtas members.
