In the first of our series of articles on preparing for a Bord Bia quality assurance inspection, we look at what information is required in the bovine herd register and sheep register.
Bovine Herd RegisterEach participant must have a system for recording bovine movements and include at a minimum, a listing of all the bovine animals currently on the holding, records of all bovine births and deaths and all movements onto and off the farm with AIM Compliance Certificates where relevant retained.
All cattle on the farm must be tagged with two matching tags by 20 days of age and be registered with the Department of Agriculture’s AIM within 7 days of tagging and all animals must have a valid passport by 40 days of age. A batch of animals will be inspected during the audit to make sure they are tagged in accordance with bovine identification requirements. Tag numbers from three to five inspected animals will be cross referenced with blue cards and the animal recording system on the farm to show that the animals have been correctly recorded.
