“All dairy and beef farmers need to all join together to put pressure on our Government. Things will never change unless our voice will be heard” – Wicklow Calf Company

The Beef Plan Movement is planning a protest to highlight the lack of action on live exports.

The demonstration is being held in Wicklow Town; candidates will assemble at The Beehive at 10:30am tomorrow (Tuesday, March 5th). Â

Releasing a statement, Beef Group (2018-2025) said: “Peak calving season and exporters only able to export a fraction of the calves that they have markets for. This means that Dairy farmers are literally giving their calves away.”

“Many of the stakeholders have sat on their hands. Even though they have been collecting levies, all they have done is paid themselves hefty wages and have done nothing to solve the problem.” Â

The spokesperson asked why a small fraction of the levies - which are being paid by farmers - could not be utilised to erect temporary accommodation due to insufficient lairage space in Cherbourg.

“Why couldn't it be arranged that ships would travel every day in the week except three? This should have been done in October.” The statement concluded.

“Stand up and be counted”

Releasing a statement regarding tomorrow’s proceedings, Wicklow Calf Company said: “All dairy and beef farmers need to all join together to put pressure on our Government. Things will never change unless our voice will be heard.”

“If you can’t give two hours of your day, it’s a bad job; it will only get worse. Stand up and be counted.” The post stated.Â
