Four of Ireland’s leading processors having cut prices for February milk supplies in the past week, read about it here. As a result, we conducted a poll to see how farmers truly felt about the matter.
The first question posed was if farmers felt it was fair that prices were cut due to the bad weather, 71% were in agreement that it was not fair, which represents a vast majority. We also asked the question if people thought that prices would improve for March supplies. Again, the vast majority, 90%, were in agreement that prices WOULD NOT improve!
The next question posed was, if farmers thought the dairy industry was heading for a crash, to which 71% answered yes! They felt that a crash within the industry is imminent, while only 29% remained optimistic.
The final question was perhaps the most interesting and shed the most light on the industry at the moment. When asked, if it was wise for more people to be getting into the dairy industry and if they would go dairy if they were to start over, a landslide 73% of voters answered no!
It seems uncertain times for farmers at present, hopefully, prices will begin to improve and farmers rewarded for their hard labour, as soon as possible!.
Don’t forget to take part in our weekly poll each and every Saturday. Each week is a different topic and we want your opinion!
