You can now get the college open day experience from the comfort of your own home.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Teagasc have created an innovative way to provide prospective students a chance to experience an open day in their colleges from the comfort of their own home.

The series of virtual open days will be run over 7 parts, showing what can be expected from their full-time Level 5 agriculture, horticulture, equine and forestry courses.

The first part of the series will commence of Wednesday June 3rd with the Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens, Dublin. The final event takes place with Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College Co. Cork on Wednesday 17th June.

Open day

Teagasc stated that each open day will focus on an individual college in the overall Teagasc network. Staff from each college will give a live presentation on their college and the courses they provide. Video footage of college educational facilities and farm enterprises will also be provided.

Each college will also host a virtual question and answer session and advise on how to complete the course applications online.

Head of the Education Programme in Teagasc, Tony Pettit said: “School leavers and parents interested in Teagasc full-time Level 5 courses should tune in and get the ‘look and feel’ of colleges and courses from their own homes.”

“Our colleges and farms are unrivalled in the depth and breadth of expertise and facilities they bring to land sector education. They are backed by the most up to date Teagasc research and knowledge transfer.”

The webinars will be broadcast via zoom and participants can submit their queries about course and college during the event.

COVID-19

Existing Teagasc courses have continued since COVID-19 restrictions were implemented using online channels to support delivery and assessment.

They intend that the full-time level 5 and 6 courses for the upcoming academic year will commence in September as usual. However, delivery models will be adapted to comply with national COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions.
