One of Ireland’s largest solar power developments is already into the planning phases.
Irish developer Solar Éireann recently applied for planning permission to build the huge new project. It is estimated that it will power up to 9,000 homes per year and produce up to 33,000 MW/h of energy per year. It will be the largest ever solar farm built in Ireland.
The proposed 163 acre site is located near the townlands of Ellaha and Ballinknockane, near Foynes in Co. Limerick. It is estimated that the development will cost in excess of €30 million euros.
The energy gained from the farm will be connected to the national grid, and it is expected that construction of the farm will take in excess of three months. Work is expected to commence in early 2019, though this depends on the completion of the government's new Renewable Energy Support Scheme.
Upon completion the solar farm will provide up to 150 jobs to the local area.
