Recent standard pig price figures, for the week ending on December 8th 2018, have shown that Irish pig prices remain among the lowest in Europe.
The current average price for pigs in Ireland stands at €139.25 per kg, which represents a decrease of -5.9% on last year’s price from the same period (148.01). This means that Irish pig prices remain among the lowest in Europe, with only Spanish, Belgian, Danish, Dutch and Portuguese pigs having lower prices.
Current Irish pig prices fall just below the European average which stands at €142.20 per kg. This stands at -8-8% on last year’s average prices and a sustained poor demand in the run-up to Christmas has kept prices down.
Estimated slaughtering’s, however, have remained relatively unchanged throughout Europe each week, standing at 186,500 head. This is a -1.3% decrease on 2017 numbers.
The next update on pig prices will be given on January 4th.
