Perfect Day - a Cork-born start-up - has launched a limited-edition vegan, lactose-free ice-cream.
The research and development firm made the product using its flora-based, animal-free dairy protein.
The lab-grown product will be available in three flavours; vanilla salted fudge, milky chocolate, and vanilla blackberry toffee.
The company has been developing a method for producing functional protein using fermentation of microflora since 2014.
Ryan Pandya - CEO and Co-founder of Perfect Day said, “What we’re doing here is completely new to the world; we wanted our first debut to be under the care of our own brand, so that we could demonstrate the consumer benefits inherent to our protein, while starting a conversation about this new approach to making food.”
The fermentation process of Perfect Day’s proteins is similar to the manufacture of amino acid and vitamins and the company claims that it is identical to the proteins found in cow’s milk.
“Our goal has always been to impact, to pave the way for a kinder, greener planet,” said Perfect Day’s co-founder, Perumal Gandhi.
“The best way to achieve this will be to work with food companies that already purchase huge amounts of dairy ingredients."
"While our B2B deals come to fruition, we are eager to share our progress with the world,” Perumal concluded.
