Cows have been back on meal a few days; they have been hovering around 12/13-litres the last 3 weeks.
Protein and butterfat have been fantastic this year so wasn’t I overly concerned over milk yield as I was receiving a high milk price and lowered cost of production by cutting out meal for 13 weeks.
Cows are now back on meal as I will soon have to start building up farm cover for the autumn. Re-introducing concentrates to the diet, will, of course, increase milk yield. I'd be confident it will go back up to around 15-litres.
I still don't regret cutting out meal for the 13 weeks; for me it was a no brainer with such a fantastic year for grass growth.
