The Irish Simmental Cattle Society will hold a commercial breeding heifer sale at Roscommon Mart at 6pm next Wednesday evening (May 27th).
The online sale will feature 68 Simmental-X heifers - 7 in-calve, 55 maidens and 6 weanlings.
A sales catalogue can be viewed here and interestingly, over 94% of the heifers for sale are evaluated as 4 or 5-star on the replacement index.
Speaking to That's Farming about the upcoming sale, Peadar Glennon of the Irish Simmental Society, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for farmers to source quality breeding heifers for the suckler herd.”
He also acknowledged the efforts of Roscommon Mart for facilitating this sale and added that livestock marts must be thanked for “the speed in which they adapted their systems to enable farmers to continue to trade”.
He has seen how this pre-sale viewing period and on-line system are working at a number of marts over the past two weeks and pointed out that “the system is very user-friendly and farmers are very happy purchasing, once they have got the opportunity to view the animals in advance”.
All animals for this sale on Wednesday evening next will be penned by 4pm and viewing will take place between 4-30 & 5-30 pm.
Potential customers are asked to contact Roscommon Mart (090 66 26352) in advance of the sale if possible in order to be set up for bidding.
