Today Minister Andrew Doyle launched the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine’s Felling Decision Tool.
This tool will be available for use by all foresters on the Department’s website. It’ll help farmers to decide when it’s best to fell their conifers so that they will get the best return on their investment
Minister Doyle was insistent that the time to clear fell shouldn’t be underestimated and in fact this new tool will give more informed decision making. The tools show the significance of the rotation length and its importance when it comes to return on the farmer’s forest investment.
The tool is also useful for sawmill companies as they can use it to acquire the suitable wood quality and wood length. The tool can be found here.
We’d be interested to hear your opinion on the new tool, good or bad, so get in contact.
